** You can turn off subtitles in the settings ** Meet Simon. He's had 30 hours of driving
lessons and no private practice. Simon's got a driving test booked for in five
days time. He now wants to get used to driving on his own in test conditions
without any help. This mock test will be perfect to see how test ready he really
is. You're allowed up to 15 driving faults
during the test, often called minor faults. These aren't potentially dangerous but if you keep making the same fault throughout
your test then it could become a serious fault. Get a serious or dangerous fault and it's a driving test fail. A serious fault is
something that could potentially be dangerous and a dangerous fault involves
actual danger to either yourself, the examiner, another person or property. once
you're outside the test centre, the examiner will ask you to read a number
plate.
Then on the walk to your car or in the car, the examiner will offer you a
pre-test brief. The pre-test brief will be something similar to this. The test will
last about 38 to 40 minutes and will include about 20 minutes of independent
driving and various roads and traffic conditions. I'll ask you to complete one
maneuver and we may carry out an emergency stop, the sort of things you've
been practicing with your instructor or accompanying driver. Let's catch up with
Simon as he's about to start his mock driving test. EXAMINER – "Tell me how you'd check the
direction indicators are working, you don't need to exit the vehicle." SIMON – "When
you turn the vehicle on, you would check the lights and you can
and the hazard lights to check all the lights." EXAMINER – But how would you check that
they're all working?" SIMON – "Get outside the car and walk around." EXAMINER – "Okay, great thanks."
The examiner will then say "Throughout the drive continue ahead unless traffic
signs direct you otherwise.
When I want you to turn left or right, I'll tell you
in plenty of time." EXAMINER – "We'll start with some independent driving and I'd like you to
follow the directions given by the sat nav please. I'll let
you know when the independent driving's finished. Okay, start the car when you're ready and drive on when you're ready
please." SAT NAV – "After 100 yards turn right." "Turn right" "After 300 yards cross the roundabout
and take the second exit." "Cross the roundabout and take the
second exit." "After 300 yards turn left." "Turn left." "After 300 yards cross the roundabout
and take the second exit." "Cross the roundabout and take the
second exit." EXAMINER – "Pull up on the left in a safe place please." "Drive on when you're ready." SAT NAV – "After 300 yards go left on the
roundabout and take the first exit." "Go left on the roundabout and take the
first exit." EXAMINER – "Pull up on the left in a safe place please." "Drive on when you're ready." SAT NAV – "After 300 yards turn right." "Turn right." "After 300 yards turn left, then turn
right." "Turn left, then turn right." "After 100 yards turn right." SAT NAV – "Turn right."
EXAMINER – "Okay don't worry, I'll direct you from here." EXAMINER – "You can ignore the sat-nav just for a
moment.
SAT NAV – "After 300 yards turn around when possible." EXAMINER – "You can ignore that." EXAMINER – "At the roundabout turn right please, second exit." SAT NAV "Go around the roundabout and take the fourth exit." EXAMINER – "You can ignore
the sat nav." EXAMINER – "Take the next road on the right please."
SAT NAV – "After 100 yards turn right, turn right." EXAMINER – "Okay you can follow the sat nav again
now." EXAMINER – "When it's safe, I'd like you to pull up
on the right-hand side of the road please." SAT NAV – "At the end of the road turn left, turn left." EXAMINER – "I'd now like you to reverse roughly
two car lengths please, keeping it reasonably close to the kerb on your side, on the
right." EXAMINER – "Okay you can stop there.
Thanks. Drive on
when you're ready please." EXAMINER – "When it's safe to do, so can you show me
how you would demist the front windscreen please." EXAMINER – "Okay thanks." SAT NAV – "After 100 yards turn left." "Turn left." "After 300 yards cross the roundabout
and take the third exit." "Cross the roundabout and take the third
exit." "After 300 yards turn left." "Turn left." "After 200 yards turn left then bear left." "Turn left, then bear left." "After 100 yards bear left." EXAMINER – "This is a road
coming up just before the petrol station." SAT NAV "Bear left." "After 100 yards turn right then go left
on the roundabout and take the first exit." "Turn right then go left on the
roundabout and take the first exit." "After 100 yards go left on the
roundabout and take the first exit then you have reached your destination
on your left." EXAMINER – "That's the end of the independent driving, I'll
direct you from here." EXAMINER – "I'd like you to pull…" SAT NAV – "After 200 yards you have
reached your destination on your left." EXAMINER – "I'd like you to pull up on
the left just before that grey car please.
You can ignore the driveway for
now. Try and get reasonably close to that car if you can." SAT NAV – "You have reached your destination on the left." EXAMINER – "Just leave enough room to get back out again. Okay you can stop
there, that's fine thanks. Drive on when you're ready please." "At the traffic lights turn left please." "At the roundabout turn left, first
exit please." "Take the next road on the right please." "Pull up on the left in a safe place
please, you can ignore the driveways this time. okay you can switch off the engine
now, that's the end of the test. Just need a moment to finish my report." On your
driving test you're not allowed any more than 15 driving faults and no serious or
dangerous faults. Simon got a total of five driving faults and passed this
mock test! Well done Simon and congratulations! He then had his real
driving test and passed that with just two driving faults, so congratulations
again! Keep up the safe driving Simon and a big thanks for being brave enough to
be filmed.
